Prof. Sébastien Rumley, researcher at the College of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg (HEIA-FR) and co-head of the Swiss AI Center (CSIA-PME), was recently featured in the newspaper 24 Heures for his reflections on the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research and peer review processes.
In the interview, Prof. Rumley raises an important concern regarding the increasing use of AI-generated content in scientific evaluation, following his experience as a reviewer at an international conference where some reviews appeared to have been produced by generative AI systems.
“If we don’t react, the scientific world could lose all its credibility,” he warns.
While recognizing that AI can be a powerful support tool for researchers, Prof. Rumley emphasizes that a lack of transparency and critical thinking in its use can undermine the trust that forms the foundation of academic research.
At iCoSys, this reflection echoes a central question for today’s research community:
How can we take full advantage of AI’s potential while preserving the human rigor, originality, and authenticity that make scientific work meaningful?
