AI for good – Biodiversity PMC, the One Health Library powered with AI The iCoSys team (HEIA-FR), together with the Swiss AI Center for SMEs, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, took part in the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), taking place from 7 to 10 July 2026 at Palexpo in Geneva. All day long, the team animated the joint stand of the Republic and State of Geneva, alongside Patrick Ruch, Esteban Gaillac, Alexandros Kalousis, Mohamed Zerara and Aurélien Fiévez. The context For the third consecutive year, the State of Geneva brought together public, private, academic and civil-society stakeholders at a joint booth showcasing the richness and diversity of its AI ecosystem. The summit was also a preview of the global AI summit the Confederation will organise in Geneva in 2027, under the GenevaLovesData banner. The presentation Patrick Ruch presented Biodiversity PMC – the One Health Library powered with AI: millions of publications aggregated from PMC, Medline, Plazi and exclusive environmental-science journals (Pensoft Publishers, Frontiers, CETAF – Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities), enriched with semantic metadata for more precise and complete literature searches. The “Biodiversity PMC, QA and Triage” presentation, looping all day long, was accompanied by Patrick Ruch’s 12:00 talk on Thursday 9 July, covering: • Extractive & Generative Question-Answering, grounded in the publications themselves • Triage services, for exploring without querying • Web interface + open APIs, for programmatic workflows Why it matters for the Swiss AI Center Biodiversity PMC can support public authorities and private companies engaged in performing field-based biodiversity assessments. Companies developing or fine-tuning AI models could also discover the AIRadar and EDIH opportunities, which were shared at the stand.
