MSE Summer School 2026: AI & Data Services

The iCoSys team, alongside the Swiss AI Center for SMEs and the HES-SO Master of Science in Engineering, is organizing the MSE Summer School 2026 at the HES-SO Master in Lausanne from 31 August to 4 September 2026. The school brings together 27 Master students from across Switzerland to tackle a pressing question: How do we successfully deploy AI in real-world business services?

 

The context

Translating AI research into reliable business services requires more than just advanced algorithms. It demands a holistic understanding of data engineering, scalable deployment, legal compliance, and real-world business cases. This summer school bridges the gap between academic theory and industrial practice.

 

The programme

Over five intensive days, students will engage in: • Mornings: Expert talks (4×45’) on business case discovery, advanced data engineering, AI modelling (RL, LLMs), MLOps & real-life deployment, and law/safety/ethics. • Afternoons: Team case-study sprints tackling challenges provided by industry partners.

 

Daily themes: • Mon. 31.8 – Business case understanding & AI adoption • Tue. 1.9 – Data engineering • Wed. 2.9 – AI modelling • Thu. 3.9 – MLOps & deployment at scale • Fri. 4.9 – Law, safety & ethics; final presentations (14:30) & apéro (17:00)

 

Call for expertise

To make this experience as close to reality as possible, we are actively seeking: • Industry case studies for student teams to tackle throughout the week. • Subject matter experts ready to share insights on AI in the enterprise (a few talk slots remain open). Even if you cannot contribute a case or talk, you are warmly invited to attend the morning talks (limited guest spots daily), watch the student final presentations on Friday 4 Sep from 14:30, or join the closing apéro at 17:00.

The successful integration of AI into business services relies on close collaboration between academia, students, and industry. By exposing the next generation of engineers to real-world constraints and expert guidance, the MSE Summer School prepares them to deploy robust, ethical, and scalable AI solutions.
