Mitipi improves its KEVIN security device with AI, and launches a crowdfunding campaign

The Fribourg-based company Mitipi is developing a new version of its anti-burglary device KEVIN, this time powered by artificial intelligence (AI). This project is carried out together with the Swiss AI Center for SMEs and iCoSys – HEIA-FR / HES-SO, with support from Innosuisse.

What is KEVIN?

KEVIN is a small device that helps prevent burglaries by simulating the presence of a person at home.
It uses lights, shadows, and everyday sounds to make a house look occupied.

The new AI-based version will make KEVIN even more convincing. It will be able to:

  • create realistic conversations,

  • adapt to your daily habits,

  • imitate your voice,

  • detect unusual noises and react to possible intrusions.

The goal is simple: to scare off burglars before they even try to break in.

As Professor Jean Hennebert from iCoSys explains: “AI can make security systems much smarter. By giving KEVIN more natural and human-like reactions, we can make it an even stronger deterrent.”

Importantly, KEVIN protects privacy: most data stays directly on the device, and everything else remains stored in Switzerland.

About Mitipi

Mitipi was created in Switzerland in 2018. The company worked with police officers, burglary victims, and even former burglars to understand what really stops an intrusion.
KEVIN is now patented in Switzerland, the EU, the US, and the UK, and has won several awards, including the European Security Award 2024. It is used in Switzerland, across Europe, and in the United States.

Mitipi is now developing a new idea called “Prevention Security”, focusing on avoiding burglaries, not just detecting them after they happen.
