Abstract

EVAL2Rn, a digital tool for assessing the risk related to the presence of radon before building construction and renovation, serves several objectives: improving professionals’ skills, anticipating necessary measures, and reducing costs associated with inadequate consideration of the risk. It evaluates the risk based on predefined criteria, tested using advanced statistical and machine learning methods.

EVAL2Rn also provides a “risk management” solution for cantons. The National Radon Action Plan 2021-2030 aims to sustainably improve protection against radon and strengthen risk perception and awareness of health risks. According to the Radiation Protection Ordinance, cantons are responsible for monitoring the implementation of radon protection measures in premises where people spend several hours a day. Therefore, they must have means to monitor constructions, which is currently lacking.
